APPLICATIONS

Vincristine Sulfate is the sulfate salt of a vinca alkaloid obtained from the periwinkle plant (Vinca rosea Linn). It is a white to off-white powder; soluble in water and methanol; slightly soluble in 95% ethanol. The chemical designation is Methyl(3aR,4R,5S,5aR,10bR,12bR)-4-acetoxy- 3a-ethyl- 9-[(3R,5S,7R,9S)- 5-ethyl-5- hydroxy-9-methoxycarbonyl-1,4,5,6,7,8,9,10-octahydro- 3,7 -methano- 3-azacyclo undecino [5,4-b]indol- 9-yl]-6- formyl-5-hydroxy- 8-methoxy-3a,4,5,5a,6,11, 12,13a-octahydro- 1H-indolizino [8,1-ca]carbazole-5- carboxylate, monosulfate. It is an inhibitor of monoamine oxidase B. It is used as an antineoplastic agent, administered intravenously, as a component of combination chemotherapy regimens for Hodgkin's disease primarily and for acute lymphocytic leukemia, non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, Wilms' tumor, neuroblastoma, breast carcinoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, multiple myeloma, soft-tissue sarcomas, osteogenic sarcoma, other sarcomas and certain brain tumors. It is widely used on cancer research and multi-drug resistance.
